Jesmond Dene has recently won two major awards in the Heritage and Conservation Award category at the Landscape Institute Awards in a London ceremony last month, which unless you aren’t familiar with the Dene is of no surprise as its a place of outstanding beauty.
It was aslo recently named the best Hidden Gem Beauty spot in the North following a campaign by Northern Rail to highlight places of interest within the North of England.
The restoration of Ouseburn Parks, designed by Southern Green Ltd, which consisted of linking four separate parks that cover a two mile stretch of the city’s Ouseburn, received high praise from the judges.
The award recognised the diverse range of works that was implemented in the park, including the conservation and restoration of the historic landscape and structures, features and views. The improvement of paths throughout the park and physical access within and between the parks.
The park is to feature in the Northern Rail’s ‘Hidden Gem’ poster campaign that aims to highlight all the hidden gems across the North and will appear in 70 railway stations across the Network.
The park will also feature in leaflets that provide information about each of the award winners these will aslo be available in stations across the rail network.
